Throw your cares to the wind blokes! Kawakubo's latest collection for A/W is better illustrated than written (although that's the purpose of a review right? <3). In a direction that still fulfills the spirit of past seasons, Comme des Garcons puts forth looks better suited for a day in the wonka factory rather than the runway (as intolerant as that may sound, I did actually enjoy the show). My fave pics are shown below:

Erratically visual, chromatically dominating and unconventionally appealing - these are terms that underline this  collection. To put it into perspective, imagine the high-strung energy and extravagant gaudiness of Gaga meshed together with the comical nature of Willy Wonka (I wonder if Jacobs secretly had a hand in this <3). At its outset, models where accoutered in looks very similar to the first picture I posted - monochromatic, origami like outfits (honestly, the notion of living paper came to mind), although the footwear was another story. Brogue detailing aside (the only element that saves the day), the choices of heels and oxfords honestly left a bad taste in my mouth. Shapeless, crew cut socks were worn under shoes that felt way too weighty and cumbersome - it was all too juvenile for me, which is definitely underwhelming (considering the appeal behind the brand).
With so many looks falling under that "Gaga" aesthetic I just alluded to, the feeling of eccentricity was never wanting - take a look at this cloaked, floral ensemble for example :
This is quite possibly the most interesting look in the collection, although I'll leave the issue of wearability to the styling pros. Speaking in terms of design, the patterns and prints were spot on - florals remained at the top and were used very well in turning down the costumey nuances put on the models. Creamy, paper like hues of varying textures were shown and pieces of portentous, balloon like aspect continually gave the illusion of a walking gallery on the runway. The overall show gave the impression of maturity and stylistic comedy, cleanly finished with a dose of lurid whimsicality. One question remains though: what will I pick from this collection? :3
Have a great day! <3
