If you were to ask anyone on Twitter their thoughts on who looked the snazziest at the Met last week, you'd better be sure to bring your rain boots (you'd probably drown in the flood of answers immediately ensuing :] ). Whether you're a staunch traditionalist (regarding evening wear) or the type that revels in your ability to go against the grain, the Met Gala this year provided looks covering the whole range. It's not my intention to dissect every garment proffered - really, it'd take way too long. However, I will treat the theme of an extensive review very lightly (my editorial skills are being tasked double-time -I'll explain much later <3). Just to be clear, these pics aren't ranked: I love each and every look equally.

I'm not necessarily a fan of androgynous wardrobes (it really depends on the fit and confidence of the wearer, to be sure), although Coco Rocha caused me to do a double-take when I saw her in this canary yellow Givenchy jumpsuit. Extra brownie points to her for being pro-vintage and paying homage to Schiaparelli. Notice something else here? Coco's hair matches her top! What tops this look off also lies in the prints. It's (somehow) reminiscent of Prada's S/S 2012 campaign for men. All in all, she's superbly chic!
Solange has always been a hit or miss deal for me in many ways. Her sense of style, nonetheless, is palatable and helps her "stay gold". In more ways than she's aware, Solange definitely brought her A-game to the Met this year. In my eyes at least, nothing better exudes femininity than a meticulously cut gown or evening dress. Solange looked amazing (which is quite an understatement in terms of the fit) in this Rachel Roy floor length ensemble. Unlike Rocha's jumpsuit, her gown's shade of yellow is a tad softer and creamier, matching her skin tone nicely. Her clutch (which to me seems a bit kitsch and flashy) somehow retains a sense of modernity and is a great addition to the overall look. Well done!
Ever since that big hang up she had at French Vogue, I've come to admire Carine Roitfeld. To be brief, she's what they call a "fire-eater" - controversial and slightly brusque, but inwardly fun-loving and sincere. Her appearance at the Met was terribly refreshing and this look is spot on in terms of function and appeal. Honestly, who else could tuck a scarf into an oversized Givenchy tuxedo jacket and pair with a side slit dress and heels? With minimal effort (it seems), Roitfeld turned a group of disparate and atypical garments into a sensual tall order. This is a look that I'm falling more in love with as I go back to it. Great stuff!
Considering the boisterous and whimsical designs of Mary Katrantzou, I'd never expect to see Elizabeth Banks in a gown by her.  In any case, my readers may instantly be aware of a detail that drew me into this look: peplums. Really, I can't get enough of them. Women should rejoice -  if you're wanting to be on trend and love looking feminine in a new way (which should apply to almost all females), then you've found your ticket here. In any case, Banks wears this dress well. The variegated mix of patterns (the latter half reminds me of ankara, in some respects) is a pointed nod towards the works of Miuccia Prada (who is glamorous without being overly expressive). Her neck shawl is also something to take note of. While minimally cut and subtlety elegant, it still possesses that on cue element of expression that Katrantzou is so fond of.
Elizabeth banks is, without question, a fox!

Have a great day!

Ugh, blogging never felt so great! Between me finalizing my move here in Atl and skipping out for the occasional fashionable escapade, my energies are almost spent in a toilsome search for employment (which is much needed). Some weeks prior to all of this, I tuned in to the live stream for Lucky Magazine's FABB (fashion and beauty blog) conference. Whether you happen to be a novice blogger or a seasoned editor at large, the information and suggestions highlighted  proved to be critically useful. Unsung heroes of the social media realm (bloggers like Aimee Song, Mad Men actor Kiernan Shipka, Elizabeth Banks and Randi Zuckerberg) delved deep into the burgeoning issues of bloggers of this age. Videos of the live streams are posted below (be sure to check out the interview of Elizabeth Banks. Fun stuff <3)
-all videos are from the LOOKTV channel on YouTube-

My all time favorite interview had to be with Randi Zuckerberg. Speaking on the topic of emerging digital platforms and the future of social, she lauded the modern bloggers ability to crowd-source and ultimately dictated that when you choose to blog, you are (and hence become) your own brand. Big words drop from the house of Zuckerberg <3
Have a great day!
