Unlike most of my contemporaries in the blogosphere that are blessed with ample funds and choice models of the latest DSLRs, I'm not so lucky, which translates into me having to rely on luck (aka the 5mp shooter on my Nexus S) in bringing out my inner photog. In any case, the idea dawned on me to start posting a few things that I like to wear (that I don't mind sharing with my audience :]). While I finish finding those great bags for my Covetables segment tomorrow (Want Les specifically), I'll let you all pick through the remains of my (exhaustingly) difficult OOTD shoot. Most of the time (quote: 94%), you'll never see me in anything but trouser shorts or chinos. I'm working on upping my suiting game very soon though. Only a handful of guys (or skilled tailors/designers) can understand the horror in finding a slim fit suit for anyone under 5'4, which applies to yours truly.
Kindly excuse my sweaty grimace - this new lamp that I got for my room is ridiculously bright and puts off heat better than a few space heaters I've used ( I'm so very serious). Right now, I like what I have on : my denim (Levis 510) is slimmed down but not "tourniquet" tight (similar to those male jeggings in 2010) and rolled up a bit for a good show of ankle. I scored this oxford from Salvation Army, which has a slightly modern fit. Whether by consignment shop, clothing drives or the like, thrifting isn't slowing down. My plimsolls are Chuck Taylor. They have an amazingly low profile in the sole, which is perfect for a guy my size. As I started to look more at the pic, however, I got a bit bored with my look (or maybe the heat got to me) and made the decision to inject a splash of color onto it <3
I forgot to include my shoes with this, but if you can imagine the picture I posted above this current one, you'll get a good feel for the "preppy-chic" nuance that I was going for. Sometimes I forget to apply the basics to my wardrobe. Adding color to this look is a veritable essential - never compromise on that. I traded my other readers for these Tortoise & Blonde oversized frames for a refined finish. A scarf in the summer you say? I see blokes doing it with keffiyehs, so hopefully you all can let it ride :)

So while I was getting this post together, my brain was caught in a tizzy. I just realized that today marks my 50th post on the blog ( :>) and this year's CFDA's happens to fall into it's 50th iteration. Color me crazy - but that's gotta mean something <3 (or it's just pure chance). In any case, did anyone happen to check in on last nights Council of Fashion Designers Awards? For those who have the right followers on Instagram, many pics were live-tweeted during the affair and right now I'm sitting on my hands in eager anticipation for the CFDA broadcast (seen here at Style.com) showing tonight. While Style.com gets the streaming situated, I'll go ahead and post a few of my fave looks.
Without laying on too many useless platitudes, I'm sure that by now everyone knows that I'm a strict minimalist when it comes to clothing. Do I dabble in the occasional pattern? For sure! However, I've always found success in following the mantra of less = more. Take a look at Zoe Saldana for instance. This sheer paneled gown by Prabal Gurung is fantastically striking and has femininity drawn all around it. Regarding details, the banded loop of satin on the waist is beautiful. Although horizontal lines tend to break the slimness of a silhouette (generally speaking), I'm starting to think that the sheer panels turn this down a bit. Great designs almost always have impeccable details <3
Don't worry guys: this time I made sure to post a great example of best dressed-ness for us. In the spirit of classic American fashion, Matt Bomer wears this 2 button steel gray suit by Calvin Klein with critical appeal. From the perspective of dress, he looks fantastic: the cut, color and minimal detailing are far from distasteful, which gives this suit a cut above the others. One important thing that guys miss when "suiting up" is finding a jacket that has a great fit in the shoulders (GQ covers this nicely on their site here). This is an (almost) perfect visual illustration of how suiting should look on a guy: refined, but with a twist of personal quirks!
While most designers are starting to retire orange nuances (putting mint in the center of the style radar), it seems that the veritable trend of floral patterns can hold its own. While Karen Elson's two-piece ensemble is a bit subdued in expression, it still possesses stylistic charm that would otherwise kill this look. Conventions aside, this wrapped floral skirt set from Proenza Schouler is solidly entertaining and deserves special consideration when you really need to set yourself apart from all the broads in a dress (no offense). Yet again, the mantra still applies (less is more) - minimal detailing, fine emphasis on cuts and personal spunk are defined in this illustration.
The Olsens certainly have, at the present time at least, a critical turn when it comes to design. While many of my followers on Twitter shudder when I mention The Row, I've always looked to them as a hallmark for innovation. Honestly, what two actresses can you name that've made a transition from film into fashion as smoothly as they have? You'll be hard pressed to find an answer and through it all, they've executed their vision greatly. As CFDA winners of Womenswear, the girls from Full House obviously drew a line in the sand (regarding dress): both Mary-Kate and Ashley wear designs from The Row, but paying close attention to the gowns reveals the versatility behind the line. From all of the looks I've seen on women, this is easily my favorite pair of the year. It's minimalism at it's best: wispy cuts and asymmetric silhouettes that set the tone for colors that speak classically while retaining a heightened sense of modernness. What more could you possibly want? Well done girls <3
